F-22

F22 ADF is a cool flight sim based around the brand-new USAF air superiority fighter, the F22. This game is one in a long list of military flight sims by DiD (Digital Image Design), following such great titles as EF2000. The reason that this is such a good game is probably due to DiD's experience at creating flight simulators for the military for use as training aids.
The graphics on ADF are exceptional. They are no quite up to the standard on the very latest games, however, full Glide and Direct3D support ensures that in 800x600 resolution the game still looks superb. One other thing which goes towards ADF's favour regarding the graphics is the relatively low spec PC needed to make it look good. A P200 MMX with a Direct3D compatible graphics card will make for good looking graphics. Add a Glide compatible graphics card, boost the resolution upto 800x600 and the graphics are excellent.

The realism of the game is second-to-none. All the HUD modes are faithfully reproduced, as are the functions on the MFDs. The controls are also ultra-real, and make for one of the best simulations of its type. The other enemy and friendly aircraft within the game make for the feel of a real air war, with hundreds of aircraft flying at once. Busy airfields, realistic ground based air defence systems and some of the best weapons around make this game simply unbelieveable. The ability to engage aircraft, ground vehicles, ships and buildings also adds dimension to the game. Real G force effects also add to the game, not just to the realism, but also to the difficulty.
This game seems to have an unbelieveable life. I have been playing it for months now, and still don't get bored. The different modes of play probably make this so. You can use the simulator mode for training whilst still flying against other enemy aircraft. You can use the Quick Combat mode if you simply want to shoot the enemy out. Or you can use the Tour Of Duty mode to fly like a true pilot in a real tour of duty. Continuing difficulty is nice, as the earlier missions are easy to handle, however, the later missions require real hot-shot skills if you are to succeed. One problem is that you do require a certain amount of patience if not skill, as there is much to learn, and cack-handed pilots are going to need a bit of practise. However, the manual explains what everything does and if you are prepared to spend time reading, then you are not going to have a problem.

The manuals within the game are excellent, teaching you how to use every aspect of the aircraft, and even includes a totally seperate book called 'Allies and Adversaries' which is a very good read and introduces the reader to the aircraft within the game and explains their relevance.
This is one excellent game. Buy this and it's successor, TAW (Total Air War) and be happy that you have spent your money wisely on one of the best, if not THE best, F22 simulator about.
