First of all open Windows Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. Then Press the Processes TAB. Now you will see a lot of processes are running there.
Now if you know the functionality of each process running then leave this process (for example you know that skype.exe is running for skype messenger then it means its not a virus) else if you are not sure about processes functionality (for example if you are doubtfull or you dont know that which application is using skype.exe file) then open the Google search engine and enter there each process image name. (one by one) like skype.exe. Through Google search engine you can get the information about the each process functionality. And if you find some process as spy ware or ad ware or a virus (through search engine results) then don't worry and come on at step 3.
Now for example you found that a process or file is running in your computer is supporting a virus application. Then follow these steps. Right Click My Computer then click search. In the search box write the Process Image Name including its extension for example processimagename.exe. Now press enter. In search results you will find the path of the file where its located. For example the file is located in the path ("C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PROCESSIMAGENAME.EXE). Note the path on a paper. Restart Windows XP and press F8. Now start your windows in command prompt mode. Now in dos mode through command open directory of windows then open system32 directory as well. Now type the command "
